Lately, I have been thinking about Ayurveda and how it has transformed my life over the years, especially my mental health and emotional well-being.
I have noticed that when I don’t follow Ayurveda principles and the essential keys that Ayurveda promotes, I become imbalanced and my health suffers.
Before we get into these essential keys of Ayurveda, it is important to review what Ayurveda represents. You may have heard of Ayurveda and even read about it or studied it. If you have, that’s great but I would like to give you my definition and understanding based on my years of study and practice.
So here it is…
Ayurveda is a Vedic science or ancient body of knowledge that is learned and taught to develop our full human potential. Used for health, healing and personal development it considers bringing our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of our being into balance.
Ayurveda is often referred to as the sister science of yoga because it supports the processes of bringing us towards wholeness and oneness through health and wellness practices.
In Ayurvedic medicine, optimum wellness starts with the knowledge of health management and disease prevention. Both management and prevention is based on a balanced lifestyle that is in harmony with the qualities and cycles of nature. Ayurveda teaches us how to realize and integrate these qualities and cycles into our actions.
Like the owner’s manual of your car prescribes maintenance schedules for the long-term health of your car, Ayurveda also recommends daily, weekly and seasonal routines that maintain health, mental clarity and longevity.
So, what are the 5 essential keys of Ayurveda used to transform stress & anxiety into mental resiliency and emotional well-being
- Embracing the right type of diet that is wholesome and balanced.
- Practicing the right kind of exercises and yoga postures that bring balance to the mind and body.
- Applying the right stress-reduction methods that balances the autonomic nervous system (enhancing the parasympathetic nervous system)
- Integrating the right techniques that promotes high quality of sleep
- Implementing the right type of self- connection practices that foster a deeper connection to yourself, others and nature.
When you apply these 5 essential keys you can regain balance and live a lifestyle in harmony with your own constitutional qualities. You can then set the stage for optimum health and personal growth in all levels of you being.
