A question I always get asked by students and clients is, “what should I do to help me get rid of this health condition?” While the answer is not always an easy one, we can explore this topic.
First, I think it is important to define the general meaning of conventional medicine and Ayurvedic medicine as interpreted by most people. Here is a couple of definitions on Google.
1. Conventional Medicine: A system in which medical doctors and other healthcare professionals treat symptoms conditions and diseases using pharmaceutical drugs, radiation or surgery.
Note: The definition of pharmaceuticals: drugs that are made and marketed by big drug companies for use as medications to be administered to patients, with the aim to cure them, vaccinate them, or alleviate the symptoms”
2. Ayurvedic medicine: A form of alternative medicine that is the traditional system of medicine of India and seeks to treat and integrate body, mind, and spirit using a comprehensive holistic approach especially by emphasizing diet, herbal remedies, exercise, meditation, breathing, and physical therapy.
Before we get into this a little more, I would like to share a quick story about my own past health issues. When I was younger, I suffered from many health conditions. One was a skin condition that lasted for many years.
I had eczema, psoriasis, constant rashes and hives all over my body. It was giving me a lot of anxiety and I went to see many conventional doctors and specialists for help.
The doctors would prescribe many medications to treat the symptoms and when that didn’t help, I would go to the next doctor who would prescribe another medication only to have same results – no change in my skin conditions or anxiety.
I once even had a specialist tell me to take regular baths with chlorine bleach, which didn’t help. I did various food allergy tests and tried eliminating certain foods from my diet and that didn’t work either. I even tried working with holistic health practitioners such naturopathic doctors and homeopathic doctors. Nothing helped.
It was only when I started to learn about Ayurveda and apply some of the healing therapies did things really clear up including my skin and anxiety.
Sure, sometimes certain conventional medicines can help relieve and manage our conditions, but they don’t address the root cause. As a result, they come back.
In addition, prescribed medications and even over the counter drugs can have some negative effects on the body, brain and mind. Ayurveda on the other hand address the root cause of physical, emotional and mental conditions without the harsh side effects.
Practicing specific ayurvedic techniques and therapies in as systematic way has proven to help heal and eliminate many health conditions.
According to a recent article I read from the Harvard Medical School, some of the most effective and natural ways to treat and manage mental health conditions such as anxiety is through mind-body approaches which include deep breathing techniques as well as using safe natural herbs.
Through my experience working as an ayurvedic practitioner with clients who suffer from various health conditions, I have noticed something extremely important. And that is, some of the most effective strategies for relieving and eliminating health conditions include integrating specific ayurvedic therapies, protocols and techniques.
I have studied and learned many of these under the guidance of some world-renowned yoga and ayurvedic practitioners, doctors and therapists. Some of these ancient and traditional techniques were taught to me by advanced yogis and masters from the Himalayas of India. Not only have I used these myself, but I have helped hundreds of clients by using them.
So, when it comes to choosing a method of treating conditions and achieving optimal health the decision is up to you. Maybe you use both Ayurvedic medicine and conventional medicine. In my experience Ayurveda can be very beneficial in healing the body and mind.
If not, you can take some classes, courses, trainings or workshops on Ayurveda or Ayurveda Yoga Therapy. See links below!
