STRUCTURE
The training has two components:
The first component is a 10-day, 100-hour immersion on Vancouver Island where you will experience a full schedule of learning, practice, and integration with Aman, Kelsey, and your fellow students. The immersion will allow you the space to fully take in the wisdom of the Vedic sciences and to develop your yoga practice first hand, an essential aspect of becoming a yoga teacher.
The second component extends 6 months beyond the immersion in the form of recorded lecture content and practical assignments. You’ll complete an additional 5 hours of Ayurveda study, a 50-hour Yoga nidra teacher training course, and will have 25 hours of elective hours to choose additional topics that are of unique interest to you.
Attendance at the 10-day immersion and completion of all additional hours within 6 months of the immersion are both required to obtain your certificate.
The Alchemy of Vedic Sciences Yoga Teacher Training incorporates three distinctive maps — physical, mental, and energetic — to provide a holistic approach to yoga education. This tripartite model ensures that practitioners not only gain a deep understanding of yoga postures and physical alignment but also explore the mental and energetic dimensions of yoga practice. By integrating these three aspects, the training offers a comprehensive path towards personal transformation and professional readiness to teach others.
The physical map of the Alchemy of Vedic Sciences Yoga Teacher Training is specifically designed to lay a strong foundation in the physical aspects of yoga. This includes comprehensive training in Hatha Yoga, the most classical form of yoga, which focuses on physical postures and breath control to enhance bodily strength and flexibility. Alongside Hatha Yoga, the program encompasses the principles of Ayurveda, an ancient Indian medicine system that promotes health and wellness by balancing the body, mind, and spirit. Lastly, the inclusion of Yin Yoga offers a meditative approach that targets the deep connective tissues of the body, encouraging a release of tension and a greater flow of energy. By integrating these practices, the physical map aims to cultivate a deep understanding of the body’s mechanics and how to maintain optimal health through yoga.
Moving on to the energetic map within the Alchemy of Vedic Sciences Yoga Teacher Training, we venture into a realm that transcends the mere physical aspects of yoga. This segment of the training places a profound emphasis on energy management, breath work, and an introduction to Jyotish (Vedic astrology). Energy management techniques are crucial for both yoga practitioners and teachers, enabling them to harness, direct, and balance the vital life energy (Prana) within themselves and their students. Breath work, or Pranayama, is integral to this process, teaching individuals how to control their breath to influence the flow of energy through the body’s channels (nadis), leading to enhanced mental clarity, emotional stability, and physical vitality. Additionally, the introduction of Jyotish in the training provides a unique and illuminating perspective on understanding and aligning with cosmic energies, further enriching the yoga practice by connecting it with the broader universe’s rhythms and cycles. Through these practices, the training aspires to deepen the understanding of the energetic body and its significance in achieving overall wellness and spiritual growth.
Further exploring the vast landscapes of the Vedic Sciences Yoga Teacher Training, we arrive at the Mental Map – a section specifically designed to nurture the mind’s potential and achieve a harmonious balance between thought and emotion. Central to this map is the practice of mindfulness, which encourages a heightened state of awareness and presence. Through mindfulness, individuals learn to observe their thoughts and emotions without judgment, leading to a profound sense of peace and groundedness in their daily lives.
The teachings of Vedanta provide the philosophical backbone of this map, offering profound insights into the nature of reality, self-identity, and the universe. Vedanta’s timeless wisdom helps students peel away the layers of misconception that cloud true understanding, guiding them towards self-realization and the ultimate union with the divine.
Raja Yoga, often referred to as the “royal path,” encompasses an eight-fold approach to yoga, emphasizing moral and ethical principles, physical practices, and meditative techniques. This systematic approach aims to control the mind’s fluctuations, leading to a state of inner tranquility and enlightenment.
By weaving together mindfulness, Vedanta, and Raja Yoga, the Mental Map equips students with the tools to cultivate a disciplined, focused, and enlightened mind, capable of navigating the challenges of life with grace and wisdom.
